A day in the life
My days just seem to last forever.
Take this one for instance:
Got up at 6:22am, I’ve been sleeping on the living room floor as the house is freezing with no heating I’d lit the living room fire last night and this meant that the bedroom I’m usually using would fill with fumes. As I don’t want to pick between heat and death I elected to sleep in the living room in front of the fire on the hard floor, great for your back but not great for your sniffles as there was a bit of a draft on the floor.
Made breakfast, sorted out running gear and bags, watched a bit of TV.
7:22 off to work, just under an hour of driving to Green Lane Middlesbrough.
8:20 get to work, clean cups make some tea/coffee for the lads and then settle down to catch up on email.
9:20 get in the car again and drive for 30 minutes to get to the Hartlepool site
10:00 suffered the slings and arrows of the ILT committee meeting
11:50 meeting over, check with the tech’s in Hartlepool what’s going on.
12:00 jump in the car again and head back to Middlesbrough
12:30 go to Tesco and buy sarnies and cakes for me and Don
12:40 go to see the wonderful Don and chew the fat about all the injustices in the world… eating sarnies and cake.
1:20 head back to Green Lane
1:30 try to catch up on lots of work that’s been piling up
2:50 Richard in my car and drive back to Hartlepool
3:30 3D printer demo in Hartlepool lecture theatre
4:00 dodge out of meeting to a pre-booked one hour early finish
4:05 into the toilet and into my running gear.
4:16 Seaton Carew for a 4.66 (or so) mile run up and down the seafront.
5:05 Run done, panting done, back in car and heading over to my folks
5:15 arrive at my parent’s house with Izzi waving at me from the window
5:20 play iceskating with Izzi in the dining room, watch kids TV
5:30 persuade Izzi to look after my parents while I go into the shower
5:50 a spot of tea on my knee with Izzi tucking into snacks on the couch next to me
6:30 more watching kids TV and trying to get Izzi ready to go back to her Mum’s
6:40 Izzi had a bit of an accident and her clothes are wet, unfortunately she doesn’t have any replacement tops so I sit there and hairdry her clothes while my Mum tumble dries the rest. Izzi keeps proclaiming they’re wet and won’t put them back on whenever I think we’ve got them dry enough, however the offer of a flump soon sorts this out and we get her into her clothes.
7:20 Izzi in car after wrestling with her and sorting out all her gear. Izzi wrestles and shouts and is generally the little minx we know and love.
7:30 off to Anna’s in the “big blue car” Izzi chats away for the full journey as we fly through banks and banks of fog.
8:30 unload car and Izzi
8:40 infront of TV with warm milk and a cookie enjoying the stinkbug episode of Team Umizoomi, I now almost know the whole Umi-cops song.
8:50 in bathroom cleaning teeth and getting Izzi washed up.
8:55 upstairs and Izzi into her jammies
9:00 reading Mr. Bump and Mr. Grumpy Mister Men books to Izzi.
9:15 back downstairs with Izzi making another cup of warm milk
9:20 in bed lights off, Izzi holding onto my ears and drinking milk in the dark
9:35 Izzi asleep
9:40 Anna home, have a quick cuppa with her before leaving
9:50 back at my gaff, lots of new building work
9:55 put away shopping that my Dad has very kindly got for me.
10:05 inspecting building work and checking on broadband which now seems to be working
10:30 picking up email from over 5 weeks of not having broadband access
10:40 sorting out £3,000 for the builder tomorrow, rubber banding it into £500 rolls and putting it in an envelope.
10:50 sorting out clothes from run and getting clothes ready for tomorrow
11:05 writing up run that I’ve done today in book and recording times.
11:30 downstairs and making bed in the living room.
11:50 having a beer and trying to relax after a long day
12:30 watching a very engrossing Horizon about cognitive errors and the Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman.
1:30 to sleep in a freezing house having got little done on improving it.
